Object history
Rankin is the co-founder and publisher of the style magazine Dazed and Confused, which has become a focus for innovative photography during the late 1990's. He is also the magazine's in-house photographer, and has become renowned for producing it's memorable portraits of celebrities from the worlds of pop music, cinema and fashion. Whilst Rankin’s photographic style has been relatively straightforward, his approach to making portraits has been distinctive - provocative, cheeky, entertaining - and often erotic.
