Furnishing Fabric

1897 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Furnishing fabric of cotton printed in maroon, two shades of yellow and light brown. At the borders, there are the initials 'VR' under a regal crown, alternating with a bust of Queen Victoria under an imperial crown. This is on a maroon ground within an opposed meander, one side formed of a ribbon with the dates 1837, 1897, the other side consisting of a stem bearing acorns, roses, shamrock and thistles. In the middle, on a creamy white ground, is an arrangement of scrolling stems, shamrock and thistles. It frames a lozenge with the date 1897 (the 1 and 7 composed of roses, the 8 of shamrock and the 9 of thistles), alternating with a tudor rose enclosed in a garter. This is flanked by two diamond shaped views of Windsor Castle and Balmoral.
