Object history note

In 1971 this cabinet was on display in the Green Dining Room, originally decorated by Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. in 1866.

Labels and date

Benson is best known for his designs in copper and brass, several examples of which are on show nearby. In the 1890s he also designed a number of pieces of furniture for Morris & Co., which are illustrated in their catalogues, and became chairman of the firm after the death of Willaim Morris in 1896.
