Miss Eliza Booth was the only daughter of Lord Delamere. She died on 9 January 1765, aged 21 years. This miniature is set in a locket, which is engraved on the reverse ‘Hon. Eliza Booth, 1765’, the year of her death. The miniature is a copy of an oil painting by Francis Cotes, dated 1764 (this was sold in the Lockett Agnew sale on 18 June 1923). The miniature copy is dated 1766. It was clearly ordered from Smart after Eliza's death as a personal, portable memento for one of her family, or a close friend.
