Physical description

Preliminary drawing for the monument to William, 1st Lord Boston (1706-1775) and his wife Albinia (d.1769) erected in 1779 in St. Mary's Church, Whiston, Northamptonshire. mourning female figure leaning on urn and extinguishing the torch of life.

Object history note

The mourning female figure of this monument is also to be found on the monument to Sir Charles Kemeys Tynte, Bart. (d.1785) in St Edward's Church, Goathurst, Somerset. For a drawing of a probable alternative design for this monument see E.4364-1920.
