Object history
This design comes from a collection of designs inscribed with the name of 'Mrs Jones Foy' (sometimes spelt 'Foye') and 'Miss Helen Dansey'. It is likely that they were in the same social network. In addition, a probably relative, Sarah Jane Dansey was apparently also in the same social network because 147 designs for embroidery one of which was inscribed 'Sarah Jane Dansey' and many of which 'S. J. Dansey'were given to the V&A by the same donor. Furthermore, there are 26 patterns for japanning some of which were inscribed 'S. J. Dansey' that were donated by this donor. All of this material including receipts for making size, grounds for gilding, varnish, and japan about 1810 now in the National Art Library (86.GG. Box) were given by the same donor.
