Design for the University node of
the Plug in City
British, 1965
Pen and ink, watercolour and collage
with plastic sheet overlays
Archigram was both the name of a loose
group of architects, designers and theorists,
and the name of their magazine. They set
out to be subversive, "injecting noise into
the system". The Plug in City is a project
for city capable of rapid growth and change,
based on interchangeable elements. It
demonstrates their technocratic ideology,
their high-tech, infrastructural approach,
and their fascination with science fiction
imagery.
