Drawing of the Olivetti Training School Haslemere, Surrey Sir James Stirling (1926-92) Built 1969-72 Pencil, pen and ink and coloured crayon on tracing paper 1969 V&A:Circ.418-1973 Photo [on label]: copyright Olivetti Historical Archive This bird's eye view is an axonometric projection. The term describes a drawing in which the plan is drawn and then tilted at 45 degrees to provide the third dimension, height. The height is drawn to the same scale as the plan. The drawing therefore represents the true proportions of both plan and volume.
Object history
Correspondence with Robin Nicholson in 2018, job architect on the Olivetti Training School, has clarified the collaborative process behind the drawing's production. The original drawing was made by Robin Nicholson as job architect on the Olivetti Training School. At the request of a drawing from James Stirling, Barbara Littenberg traced the original drawing and it was then signed by James Stirling.
