Born in Geelong, Australia, Stuart Devlin trained at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and subsequently at the Royal College of Art, London, where he obtained honours diplomas in both Light Engineering Design and Gold and Silversmithing. He established his own workshop in 1965 and has since executed major commissions for private and institutional clients all over the world. One of his major achievements remains the design for the Australian coinage introduced in 1967. In 1996-7 he was serving as Prime Warden of the Goldsmiths’ Company."

This candelabrum was obtained by the previous owner, Miss Joan Hurst from the maker, Stuart Devlin in 1975. It remained in her possession until she donated it to the Museum in 1995.
