Object history
A mosque lamp with the same decoration of lotus flowers against a blue enamelled ground is in the Wallace Collection (inv. C512). This bears the blazon of the Great Amir Sayf al-Din Shaykhu al-'Umari, who held this office from 1354 until his death in 1357. He was an important officer at the court of Sultan Hasan and was honoured with this title for helping Hasan to regain the throne in 1354. See Suzanne Higgott, Catalogue of Glass and Limoges Painted Enamels (Wallace Collection, London, 2011), cat.no.1, pp. 38-45.
