Design for a rug, 2ft. 9ins. by 7ft. 6ins with alternative patterns given. The design is divided into three squares, each enclosing a different form of shaped quatrefoil with a different type of foliage background and border. The quatrefoils contain respectively a lion rampant , the monogram VR, and a Tudor rose. Details of the two borders are drawn to a larger scale.

Inscribed: 'if these divisions are considered / objectionable they could be cut out / but the whole thing is intended / to represent 3 designs for selection; I think leaves are better than / crowning; see centre as drawn / on full sized one; these 2 patterns; the border is here [illegible] up' and with colour notes
Object history
In a letter from Mrs Pugin to Crace, dates 11 December 1851 (RIBAL Crace MSS PUG 8/66), the designs for rugs for the Houses of Parliament are mentioned, and this is almost certainly one of them.
