Object history
Design for a carpet at the Houses of Parliament. This pattern was registered by Crace at the Office of Designs on 22 December 1846, apparently the first he ever registered. The statutory protection for such designs was at that time 3 years, and it is very interesting to find that Crace registered the pattern again on 14th April 1852. The pattern then registered included the initials VR in the framework, between the star shapes.
