Underskirt made of four panels with the seam edges overcast and only the hem lined in black silk. Damask silk satin ground patterned with tall elliptical arc shapes delineated by different weaves such as twill and weft faced plain weave. The waistband has green embroidered crosses.

Object history | Historical significance: The skirt was originally acquired by the museum because the silk from which it is made is of an interesting design. In correspondence with the V&A in 1972, the donor, Alice Maishman, identified this garment and those acquired with it, as made in Scotland. |
