Landscape format engraving in black and white of the ruins of the arches of the Aqueduct of Claudius. The engraving begins depicts 2 full arches, and then 4 sets of arches, one on top of the other. Plants and shrubbery grow from the aqueduct, highlighting its ruined quality. The letters A-D provide a key, which is explained in Italian at the bottom of the engraving.

Marks and inscriptions
Avani degli archi che del Monte Celio conducevano l'Acqua Claudia sul Palatino. A. Pilastro angolare dell' arcuazione provegnente dal Celio come dimostra il di lei avanzi. B. Direzione degli archi verso il Palatino. D. Avanzi della Casa Neroniana. (The inscription explains the letters which are dotted about the engraving, highlighting different aspects. For example. B. indicates the direction of the acqueduct as towards the Paletine Hill. )
Object history
The collection of volumes was previously owned by Decimus Burton and his bookplate is pasted in the inside cover of this volume.
