Marks and inscriptions
Veduta dell'antica Via Appia, che passa sotto le mura gia descritte nelle passate tavole dell'Ustrino, oggi ricoperta nelle rovine del medesimo. A. Letto del terreno ben sodato, e battuto con pali, prima di stendere le grossa riempitura alta palmo uno a simiglianza di lastrico composto di clace pozzolana, e scaglie di selci, e sopra di esso piantati a forza i felci. B. tagliati nel roverscio a punta di diamante. C. Altri selci posti a guisa di Cunei, i quali strigono e gagliardamente rinserrano i selci sudetti, che lastricano la Via gia detta, fra quali ognizo palmi euvene uno. D. piu eminente a superiore degli altri di tal fatta, quale dovea servire forse a quelli, che montavano, e smontavano da cavallo, e di riposo a Viandanti. Questo e gli altri inferiori sono piantati sopra un grosso muro di simili scaglie di felci, am piu grandi delle mentovate di sopra. The identify the different materials used in the construction of the road, and how these materials are used in relation to each other. )
