Place of origin

Double page portrait format engraving in black and white depicting a view of a sepulchre on the Via Cassia outside the Porta del Popolo, five miles away from Rome. The sepulchre is viewed from a ground level perspective looking up, and is highly decorated with statues and friezes. Its ruined nature is illustrated by the piles of statues around the bottom of the sepulchre, and the trees and shrubs growing around it. Goats are also depicted, climbing over the large bricks, watched by their herder who is sitting on a brick. Two other men stand next to him, clearly in conversation. The letter A provides a key, which is explained in Italian at the bottom of the engraving.
