Double page portrait orientation engraving in black and white, depicting the subterranean foundations of the Mausoleum of Hadrian (later Castel Sant'Angelo). There are large buttresses supporting the structure, constructed of large travertine blocks, and remains of the covering of opus incertum can be seen on the bottom left of the image. Men in eighteenth century dress are visible at the base of the foundations, giving a sense of scale. Features of the engraving are lettered, with a key in Italian below.
