Object history | The Stained Glass Museum, Ely, in conjunction with the V&A ran a competition in 1979-1980 for young stained glass artists. This competition was open to students in art schools in the UK and three winners were selected on the basis of slides of work submitted to the judges, John Piper (stained glass artist), Michael Archer (Deputy Keeper, Department of Ceramics, V&A) and Martin Harrison (Curator, Ely Stained Glass Museum). The winners were given £100 to produce a panel for exhibition at Ely. The V&A reserved an option to purchase (for £250) one of these panels after the exhibition. This is the panel purchased. Kunie Kajiwara was at this time a student at Swansea College of Art. The other winners (panels not purchased) were Wendy Chalmers (Notre Dame College, Ayrshire) and John Clark (Glasgow School of Art). |
