Object history
Bound in volume 8 of the 27 volume 'first Paris edition' of the works of Giovanni Battista Piranesi, published by his sons Francesco and Pietro Piranesi in 1800-1807.
Production
Piranesi originally published the 'Carceri' in 1750. For this second edition in 1761 he increased the number of plates from 14 to 16, and reworked and numbered the etchings.
