Design for a side table
British, 1780
Pen and ink and watercolour
Yenn was a pupil of Sir William Chambers, and
later acted as a clerk of works for him. One of the
first students at the new Royal Academy Schools,
he is famous for his elegant neoclassical designs
and the skilful draughtmanship he learnt in
Chamber's office. This design is for a small side
table to stand against the pier between two
windows, possibly with a mirro above. It is
designed in an austere neoclassical style, without
unnecessary elaboration.
