Drawing in charcoal on paper. This design is a preparatory, full-length figure study. It shows a balding man with a moustache and long beard, wearing a coat, who stands facing to the left. In one hand he carries a portfolio. In the other he carries a small object, possibly a pen or other drawing implement. Paper of irregular shape. Tearing and creasing. Some foxing and staining. Surface striations from loss of charcoal. Conservation mounting underneath paper.
