Drawing in charcoal on paper. This sheet of paper has preparatory figure studies on both the obverse and reverse. On the obverse, the face and upper body of a bearded man is shown facing to the left. He carries a book or folder in his hand. Additional studies are included of the arm, hands, and lower legs and feet. On the reverse, a man is shown kneeling on one knee, facing to the right in profile. His visible sleeve is rolled up, and he carries a cylindrical, necked vessel in both hands. An additional study is included of the leg on which the man kneels. Corner of paper missing. Tearing, creasing, folding, and pinholes. Some foxing. Surface striations from loss of charcoal on both sides. Note written in pencil on reverse of paper reads: 'For[?] 3'.
