Lust 1909 Edward Gordon Craig Craig used his 'Black Figures' to communicate his allegorical and abstract ideas wordlessly. 'Each engraving is not finished until the actor comes before the little design and says to himself, 'I see…I see what you mean,'….I think it is much better that an actor should have designs to look at, rather than that he should be annoyed by a great deal of talk.'
