Wallpaper manufacturers and decorating firms have published pattern books showing rooms decorated with specific wallpapers and matching furnishings since the late 19th century. This proposal for a decorative scheme for a nursery shows a simple floral stripe wallpaper with a design of circus performers as a pictorial frieze.
