Place of origin |
Painted on both the cup and the saucer is a rococo scrolled device with flowers incorporating an indecipherable circular monogram under which is inscribed the date 1756. To the left below, a European on a ladder is apparently laying bricks; surrounding this design on the saucer and the reverse side of the cup is a fanciful scrollwork basket in black and gold in which a pair of cornucopia and a cartouche with a draped figure reclining in a landscape are twice repeated.
