This type of turban, called 'shimla', was worn by the ministers and noblemen of Oudh when the newly-created Kings (or Nawabs) started wearing crowns in the early 19th Century. The 'shimla' was worn at the courts in Bengal and modified versions appear on heads of lawyers at the Calcutta High Court.
