Object history
The cross-stitch embroidery on this baby's cap is typically Gujarati (Jain work from Kutch), though the shape of the bonnet is totally European. The 'cabbage rose' design of the border also shows strong European influence. The ruffles around the edge of the cap give it a particularly Victorian look, but the use of the European-style baby's bonnet pre-dates the 19th Century.
