Mitten for the right hand (not a pair with preceeding number), probably for a woman, with short open thumb and no fingers. Leather embroidered, satin, long and short stitch, in coloured silks on the back of the hand, a debased plant design. Sequins further embellish the mitten. A short wrist slit at proper right.

Mitten for the right hand (not a pair with preceeding number), probably for a woman, with short open thumb and no fingers. Leather embroidered, satin, long and short stitch, in coloured silks on the back of the hand, a debased plant design. Sequins further embellish the mitten. A short wrist slit at proper right.

Historical context
Embroidered leather gloves and mittens were constantly presented as wedding gifts before mid-19th century Sweden, both by bride and groom. Worn on formal occasions.
Production
Made by professional glover. According to donor the mitten originally came from the parish of Åhl of the province of Dalarna (Dalecarlia), but this type is also common in the parish of Rättvik (Dalarna).
