Lampholder in the form of a peacock Vishnupur/ 19th century Cast brass/ 13.4cm high, base 11.7cm long These lamps were made to be held in the hand and waved before the shrine to ward off evil. They are usually called 'arati' lamps. The casting has been done by the lost wax process, in moulds probably prepared by the women, the men doing the casting.
