Model Boot

1865-1870 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

From the 1850s increasing numbers of fairly substantial leather boots were being made for women, often with beautiful decorative details. Model boots were not intended for wear but to show new styles and the skill of the maker or manufacturer. This style, with its tassels, scalloped button side-fastening and elegant curved top, was often referred to as 'Polish' or 'Hungarian'. The boot is made of leather and glacé kid leather, with a fashionable medium-high heel and a gently pointed toe.
