Cover for carriage cushion, interlocked tapestry in coloured wools on linen warps. The geometrically-treated pattern is composed of yellow squares enclosing red and black crosses, and green oblongs enclosing conventional trees in red and white. The remainder of the pattern is made out of pairs of white triangles on black or green grounds and stripes of red and whites. At each end are two rows of half- diamomd shaped figures of stepped outline in green, red and black with yellow centres, on a white ground. The field design is called hourglasses, alternating with crosses and trees.

Physical description

Historical context
This technique used, interlocked tapestry, is called 'rölakan' (rygglakan = back cover) in Swedish, probably after the original use of these textiles - covering the back seat. Interlocked tapestry started to be used by peasants in south-west Sweden during second half of the 18th century and by 1860s this traditional craft of weaving had disappeared.
