Object history
This is one of a series of woodcuts produced by Craig for a new edition of Hamlet, printed in 1928 (German) and 1930 (English) by Count Harry Kessler's Cranach Press in Weimar. Craig had recently designed a production of Hamlet for the Moscow Art Theatre, and brought a theatrical sensibility to the illustrations, even basing some of the woodcuts on the models he had made while designing the stage production.
