Object history | This engraving was originally published as part of 'The World's Metropolis, or Mighty London', 1851-1855. The building it depicts was built as a visitor attraction by James Wyld in 1851, with exhibition halls to display his maps and globes, as well as a giant globe 60 feet in diameter. It was demolished and sold for scrap in 1861 after Wyld's 10 year lease expired. |
