The jar rests on a flat, circular base, the wall swells upwards and outwards and is surmounted by a dome, with a circular segment removed at an angle of 45º, off centre, which forms the mouth of the vessel, the rim edged with a plain moulding. The jar is made in two sections; the hemispherical dome is braised to the body at the neck of the vessel. The soldered join is invisible externally. The external surface, highly polished. The lid is a turned sphere of maplewood.

Physical description
The jar rests on a flat, circular base, the wall swells upwards and outwards and is surmounted by a dome, with a circular segment removed at an angle of 45º, off centre, which forms the mouth of the vessel, the rim edged with a plain moulding. These pieces are of spun and polished pewter with handle and lids of polished maplewood. M.12-13-1998(March 2004)
