Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Flock wallpapers have a raised pile. Manufacturers created this effect by printing parts of the design with glue instead of colour. The printer then scattered powdered wool over the surface of the paper. The wool stuck to the gluey areas and formed a raised velvety pile. Border papers were designed to give a neat finish to papered walls. They also covered the heads of the nails or tacks the decorator often used to fix the paper or its canvas support to the walls. This paper was found on the wall inside a cupboard at Montacute House, Somerset.
