Poster
ca. 1968 (printed)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

A poster advertising a season of performances given by the St Louis Symphony Orchestra at the Powell Symphony Hall, St Louis, Missouri, USA, beginning on the 24 January 1968. Robert Rauschenberg's fascination with collage and assemblage in the 1950s led to further experiments in silk-screen and lithographic printing in the 1960s. This colourful and rhythmic composition is evidence of the artist's lifelong love of music. Rauschenberg (born 1925) has worked with the composer John Cage and, during his long association with dance companies, with the choreographer Merce Cunningham.
