Place of origin

This book shows examples of the wide range of wallpaper patterns available around 1835-1844. They include papers that mimic tracery and mouldings, others that imitate marble and woodgrain, and a wallpaper with scenes of Gothic architecture. Patterns of this kind would have been most suitable for entrance halls, lobbies, stairwells and passages. Manufacturers compiled these books of samples to show to customers who wished to choose a new wallpaper. They also served as a record of their products.
