Think ahead, Write instead

Poster
1945 (printed)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This is a poster issued by the General Post Office (GPO). Hans Schleger (1898-1976) left Germany in 1932 to become one of London’s leading graphic designers. He was strongly influenced by European Modernism, in particular by the Bauhaus. During the Second World War he produced nine posters for the GPO. These reflected wartime concerns that customers should economise on resources. A particular concern was that they should free up telephone lines for official use by writing letters rather than telephoning.
