Stairway No.1

Watercolour Drawing
1919 (painted)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

David Bomberg (1890-1957) - best known as an abstract artist - was a follower of the Paris Cubists. Cubism is the term used to refer to the use of 'geometric schemas and cubes' in art. He was a founder member of the London Group, an exhibiting society created in 1913 in opposition to the more conservative Royal Academy of Arts. This watercolour by Bomberg is a fine example of his technique, especially his unusual use of perspective lines and colours.
