Baby's Petticoat

Baby's long petticoat, of white lawn decorated with white Madeira work embroidery. The petticoat is sleeveless, with a rounded neck front; all the bodice edges are scalloped and buttonhole-stitched in white thread. The bodice front is embroidered with spot motifs of sprigs of flowers; the skirt is gathered to the waist and finished at the hem with a lace-edged flounce embroidered with a chain of flowers, spots, sprigs of foliage and cutwork. The garment fastens at the back with triangular crossover flaps, put together right over left with a slit under the true right arm, each end worked with a buttonhole.
