This pair of gold earplugs of opaque and translucent enamels and lotus flower fronts set with rubies and emeralds would have formed part of a complement of ornaments which included a cascade of necklaces, bracelets and finger rings that were essential items of dress for a Burmese lady of standing during the latter part of the nineteenth century. Pictured here with a Burmese pendant necklace of gold and seed pearls see 03165 (IS).
