This poster advertises the showing of the exhibition Issues and Causes at Brno in the Czech Republic in 1994. The exhibition was originally held at the AIGA in New York. Humour plays a significant part in the creative work of Seymour Chwast (born 1931), who was a founder-member of the Push Pin Studios in New York. Here the Statue of Liberty (personifying the United States) rides to the rescue. It refers to Chwast’s opportune late offer to design a poster for Brno’s Biennale of 1994. Chwast was a selector for the Issues and Causes exhibition in New York.
