Object history | These studies are for figures in the restored tracery of the fifth window from the east (known as the St Cuthbert Window) in the south aisle of the choir of York Minster. The original window was donated by Cardinal Langley, Bishop of Durham, in the early 5th century. In 1887-8 the whole of the St Cuthbert Window was rearranged in its original order, and twelve panels were removed. Panels of new glass were produced by J. W. Knowles, based on the originals as far as possible, and the figures of saints and angels in the tracery were replaced. |
