Historical context
Arms of Thomas Beauchamp, 11th Earl of Warwick and one of the founder members of the Order of the Garter.
The arms of Beauchamp, Earls of Warwick, appear in the Falkirk Roll (c.1298) and the Caerlaverock Poem (c.1300) as gules a fess between 6 crosses crosslet or.
The Earl of Warwick was one of the leaders on the Calais campaign (1346/7). His arms are described in the so-called Calais Roll as gules, cruillé or a fess or.

Sir John de Beauchamp of Somerset was one of the leaders on the Calais Campaign (1346/7). His arms are described in the so-called Calais Roll as 'gules 6 martlet or fess or'.
