This poster is advertising the This Is Tomorrow . . . exhibition, which was shown at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London in 1956. The exhibition was one of a series held by the Independent Group in the 1950s. Group members divided into sections, each producing its own poster. Richard Hamilton’s original collage, made specially for reproduction as a poster, has since become famous as an iconic image of 1950s culture.
