This poster is advertising the first European exhibition of the work of Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959). It was organised by Hendrikus Wijdeveld and held at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in 1931. Wright’s work found a receptive audience among Dutch and German architects. Wijdeveld, a Dutch architect, writer and editor, was one of Wright’s main European supporters. In 1925 he compiled a lavish book on Wright and in 1931 helped to circulate his exhibition around Europe. This poster shows a brilliant marriage between typography and abstract form.

Object history
This poster is advertising the first European exhibition of the work of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, held at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, which later toured Europe and the USA. The exhibition was organised by Hendrikus Wijdeveld who was an important European supporter of the architect. In addition to organising the exhibition Wijdeveld also devoted seven issues of his architectural periodical, 'Wendigen', to Wright.
