Object history note

May Milton had a very short lived career, reputedly due to a distinct lack of talent. She hailed from England and after just one season as a dancer on the Paris stage, she left France to try her luck in America. This poster was commissioned by Milton for the purpose of advertising her American tour due to begin in New York in 1896. She rapidly fell into obscurity and it is not known what became of her.
