Object history
This costume design by Lez Brotherston is part of an extensive collection of designs donated to the Theatre Museum by the artist in 2002. The design was executed for a production of Steve Brown and Justin Greene's musical "Spend Spend Spend" performed at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds, May 23rd 1999. The production was later presented at the Piccadilly Theatre, London, October 5th 1999. Based on the life of Viv Nicholson (the 1961 Pools Winner who 15 years later had spent her entire winnings), the production was directed by Jeremy Sams, choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood, and lit by Mark Henderson. The cast included Barbara Dickson & Rachel Leskovac as Viv Nicholson, and Steven Houghton as Keith. Lez Brotherston's designs for the production were nominated for the 1999 Olivier Award for Best Set Design.

An earlier version of the musical had been performed at the West Yorkshire Playhouse on June 2nd 1998. The production was directed by Justin Greene, designed by Niki Turner, and starred Rosemary Ashe.
