Perspective design for the billiard room at No.1 Holland Park

Architectural Design
ca. 1870 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This design was Thomas Jeckyll's first major commission for a decorative scheme. In 1870, A. C. Ionides asked him to design a new wing for No. 1 Holland Park, west London. The house had rooms in the then fashionable Anglo-Japanese style. The billiard room on the ground floor seems to have been the most accurate example of this style. The V&A acquired an album of photographs of the house with this design. A photograph of the finished billiard room shows that it differed considerably in detail from the drawing. The house was destroyed in the Second World War.
