This is one of a pair of gold and turquoise woman's earrings (akor) of a type formerly worn in Lhasa, Tibet, made in the shape of a lotus bud. (The other earring is missing.)

The front surface of the earring is covered in cut and polished turquoises. The use of gold and the careful finish identify this as a piece made for a noble family in the capital.
